The Best Way to Celebrate the 4th of July in San Francisco

Fireworks over the Bay, a party on Treasure Island, and the most patriotic whiskey ever bottled, welcome to America's 250th birthday, Gold Bar style.

San Francisco knows how to throw a party. But if you've been celebrating the 4th of July from a blanket in Dolores Park or fighting for a sidewalk view of fireworks, we have a better idea.

Start your Fourth of July evening at Gold Bar Distillery with handcrafted cocktails and waterfront views before taking the short walk to Cityside Park or Panorama Park to enjoy San Francisco's fireworks showLocated on Treasure Island, Gold Bar is the perfect place to kick off your holiday celebration before heading to one of the island's best public viewing spots.

This year, the 4th of July falls on a Saturday, and with July 3rd landing on a Friday, most people will have a full holiday weekend on their hands. Here's how to make the most of it.

Friday, July 3rd: Start the Weekend Right — The Elderbrook Day Party at Gold Bar Distillery

Saturday, July 4th: The Best Fireworks Views in San Francisco Are Right Here

Here's the thing about Fourth of July fireworks in San Francisco that most people figure out too late: the best view isn't on the waterfront. It's from the water.

This year, the city is going bigger than ever to mark America's 250th birthday. In addition to the usual barge launch near Pier 39, San Francisco is adding a second fireworks launch site directly from the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge, creating the largest display the Bay has ever seen. The show kicks off at 9:30pm.

Treasure Island sits in the middle of the Bay, which means it has something no neighborhood in the city can offer: a direct sightline to both launch points at once. While the crowds on the Embarcadero are craning their necks toward Pier 39, you'll be watching two simultaneous shows light up the water from opposite ends of the Bay — the Bridge to your left, Fisherman's Wharf to your right.

Skip the crowded waterfront and start your evening with handcrafted cocktails and beautiful Bay views at Gold Bar Distillery. Then, before the fireworks begin at 9:30 PM, take the short walk to nearby Cityside Park or Panorama Park for one of Treasure Island's best public viewing locations.

Gold Bar Distillery is located at 1 Avenue of the Palms on Treasure Island, easily accessible via the Bay Bridge, with free parking on site. Arrive early for handcrafted cocktails or SF's top-rated cocktail class, then make the short stroll to Cityside Park or Panorama Park to catch the fireworks display.

Toast America's 250th Birthday with the Bottle Made for It

2026 isn't just another Fourth of July. This year marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence and we made a whiskey worthy of the occasion.

The Gold Bar Whiskey America 250 Limited Edition is a collectible gift set created to honor the Semiquincentennial. Here's what makes it special:

  • The whiskey: Gold Bar's award-winning blend, finished in former Napa Valley wine barrels. Notes of honey, ripe fruit, and warm spice with a clean finish. 80 Proof / 40% ABV.

  • The design: Artwork by Adam Navin, an active duty military member, drawing from classic American tattoo culture. Eagles, shields, 13 stars for the original colonies — bold Americana executed with real artistry.

  • The cause: $1 from every bottle sold goes to Frontline Heroes Outdoors, helping veterans and first responders reconnect through outdoor experiences.

  • The gift set: Comes with a custom red, white, and blue camo gift bag — and you can add a personal engraving to the bottle.

The July 4th Cocktail: The Gold Fashioned

If you're hosting a 4th of July gathering on Saturday, whether it's a backyard barbecue, a rooftop in the city, or you're bringing a bottle down to the waterfront, this is the cocktail to make.

The Gold Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Gold Bar Whiskey Black Double Cask Bourbon

  • 4 dashes Angostura Bitters

  • 1/4 oz simple syrup

  • Orange peel, for garnish

Method:

Muddle the bitters and simple syrup in the bottom of a rocks glass. Add a large ice cube and pour in the whiskey. Stir to combine. Rim the edge of the glass with the orange peel, then drop it in as your garnish.

The Napa Valley wine barrel finish on the Black Double Cask gives this Old Fashioned a layer of fruit and complexity that's a step above the classic. Make a big batch before the fireworks start.

About Gold Bar Whiskey

Gold Bar Whiskey was established in 2013 in San Francisco, California. Our distillery sits on the ground floor of the original 1930s Pan-Am Airport on Treasure Island, a building that once welcomed the first trans-Pacific air passengers, and now serves as one of the Bay Area's most distinctive event venues and tasting rooms.

We source our base whiskies from distilleries across America and finish them in former Napa Valley wine barrels at our San Francisco distillery. A process that produces the honey, fruit, and subtle spice notes that have earned Gold Bar Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Best in Show at the Denver International Spirits Competition.

If the 4th of July weekend has you curious about what goes into your glass, our interactive cocktail classes run Wednesday through Sunday and are one of the most popular experiences on Treasure Island. You'll learn to craft three cocktails: a Whiskey Sour, Paper Plane, and Old Fashioned while tasting through our whiskey lineup and hearing the history of Gold Bar and the island itself. It's a great date night, a fun group activity, or an excuse to keep the holiday weekend going. Book a cocktail class here.

Gold Bar is the Official Whiskey of the San Francisco 49ers and Levi's Stadium, and a Proud Partner of the Vegas Golden Knights and the California Golden Bears.
