Treasure Island was originally built in 1937 for the Golden Gate International Exposition, a grand world’s fair celebrating innovation, culture, and the future of global connection. At its heart stood a striking Art Deco terminal designed to serve as a base for the legendary Pan American World Airways, marking one of the earliest visions of international commercial air travel. From this very site, flying boats once departed across the Pacific, linking San Francisco to destinations like Hawaii and Asia in an era when such journeys felt almost unimaginable. The island later played a critical role as a naval base, before evolving into one of the Bay Area’s most unique waterfront destinations. Today, it stands as a rare blend of history and reinvention, where iconic architecture, sweeping skyline views, and a legacy of global ambition come together in one unforgettable setting.

Alameda’s waterfront has long been defined by innovation, industry, and its deep connection to the Bay, evolving from a 19th-century shipping hub into a vital center for aviation and naval operations. The building that now houses Gold Bar Distillery sits within the former Naval Air Station Alameda, once one of the most important military air stations on the West Coast. From this very site, aircraft launched across the Pacific during World War II and beyond, playing a critical role in U.S. naval aviation history. After the base’s closure in the late 1990s, the area was reimagined into a vibrant destination that blends historic character with modern creativity. Today, the space stands as a unique intersection of past and present, where industrial heritage, waterfront views, and a spirit of reinvention come together in a setting that feels both authentic and forward-looking.
